The second Benchmarking Visits & Training of THE NEXT SOCIETY is about to start in Piedmont, Italy. As of next Monday, 10 June, 8 cluster managers and cluster representatives from Egypt, Lebanon, Morocco and Tunisia, will take part to this second exciting inspiration and learning 5 day-tour and will have the opportunity to meet their peers from Piedmont. The topics covered are business model, service portfolio and digital communication.

How do European countries and regions support cluster activities? What are the main objectives, measures and target groups of cluster programmes? What do cluster policies in other parts of the world focus on? These and other questions are answered by the analyses of the European Observatory for Clusters and Industrial Change (EOCIC) and its report "Cluster programmes in Europe and beyond". This document investigates cluster support in 29 European and 10 non-European countries as well as in 49 European regions.

At the beginning of 2019 Stefan Buchinger from the Federal Ministry for Digital and Economic Affairs assumed responsibility for the Austrian National Cluster Platform. In the course of the intensive exchange with cluster actors at federal and state level and the new steering committee, the activities of the National Cluster Platform were realigned.

The main topics addressed in 2019 are:

The Information Technology and Innovation Foundation is a nonprofit and nonpartisan research and educational institute and think tank whose mission is to help policymakers around the world assess and promote policy solutions that can boost innovation, productivity and growth. The ITIF’s influence is tremendous as testifies its world leading ranking of think tank for science and technology policy, and its many publications.

Evaporation method reduced plant’s energy consumption by one third

Evaporation method reduced plant’s energy consumption by one third

Information

Low steam ahead

  • Energy audit identifies prime opportunity to save energy on inefficient evaporation treatment
  • Using mechanical vapour recompression (MVR) to separate water from condensed liquids is more efficient

DuPont Group’s FinnFeeds produces betaine from sugar beet molasses and other elements for use in animal feed, nutrition, cosmetics, and the chemical industry. Considerable volumes of water and steam are needed in different processes.

Evaporative solution brings savings

Evaporative solution brings savings

Information

With advanced evaporation solutions, industrial steam consumption can be reduced significantly, by up to 40 %. One example of an advanced evaporation solution is the Mechanical Vapor Recompression (MVR) evaporation method based on a closed steam cycle. It is a much more energy-efficient way of separating water from concentrated liquids than conventional evaporation methods. The approach is suitable for processes where no additional steam is present enough.

Energy efficieny in plastics painting

Energy efficieny in plastics painting

Information

Investment in a new painting line pays off in many ways

  • A plastic parts manufacturer improved their painting process energy efficiency by investing in waste heat recovery
  • The plan is to improve energy efficiency in the entire supply chain

MSK Plast, a part of MSK Group, is a manufacturer of plastic parts located in Finland. In plastics manufacturing, the painting process consumes a great deal of energy, which means there are significant savings to be gained through more efficient approaches.
