Description
EU funding is managed by the Commission, jointly with the Member States, or through implementing partners. The management mode determines the procedure for applications and how they are evaluated. Around 70% of EU programmes are run by shared management. In shared management, both the European Commission and national authorities in Member States, such as ministries and public institutions, are in charge of running a particular programme. The Member States' administrations (at national, regional and local level) choose which projects to finance and take responsibility for day-to-day management. Each Member State has a portal to inform citizens about the implementation of Union funds in their countries. Working together with the Member States, the Commission makes sure that the projects are successfully concluded, and the money is well spent.
Relevant shared management funds for clusters are:
- European Agricultural Fund for Rural Development (EAFRD)
- European Regional Development Fund (ERDF)
- European Social Fund Plus (ESF+)
- Just Transition Fund (JTF)
- European Maritime, Fisheries and Aquaculture Fund (EMFAF)
- Cohesion Fund (CF)
The European Cluster Collaboration Platform, on behalf of the European Commission, organised the EU Clusters Talk “EU funding opportunities I – Shared management programmes” on 20 September 2023, 8:30 – 10:00 CET, to give an overview of the programmes and funding opportunities, explain the mechanisms, and share project examples with the involvement of clusters.
