In Bruges ...

  • Reduced plastics use
  • 20 % less waste over five-year period

Hotel Fevery is a small family-run hotel located in the medieval city of Bruges which became the first fully Belgian hotel to apply for and obtain an EU Ecolabel certification.

In order to meet all of the Ecolabel criteria, which include restrictions on the use of disposable products, the 10-room hotel stopped using plastic water bottles. For those guests who still preferred to drink filtered water, the management installed a water fountain. This relatively simple measure has contributed to a 20 % reduction in the hotel's overall waste during the five-year period 2010-2015.

Key results

At first, the owners worried that guests would complain about the new measure. But in the end, the opposite effect was observed. Hotel Fevery has received very positive comments on holiday and hotel review sites concerning its environmental initiatives.
