Mettler Toledo, a member of the cluster, opens a test center for contaminant detection equipment and machines to ensure access to such technology

Currently, food manufacturers, directly related to the packaging sector, are looking for product inspection solutions that ensure the quality of their products by detecting the smallest contaminants. At the same time, it is about maximizing productivity by reducing false rejection rates, in such detection. That is why Mettler Toledo opens a Test Center in Barcelona, to help determine the best solution for different types of food.

The Barcelona Test Center (BTC) is a unique test center in Europe, similar to the centers located in Tampa (United States) and Kuala Lumpur (Malaysia) and sized to meet the needs of the national and European market.

Thanks to the BTC, any user can compare two technologies such as metal detection and X-ray inspection to find the best solution for its application in the corresponding company. It is intended for two basic activities:

  • Test with real equipment and products to set the limits of the application. Companies can send their food samples and within a few days they will receive a report with a description of the test conditions, the false rejection rate and the probability of detection.
  • Conduct training events to improve the technological knowledge of its technicians, clients and associates, in order to answer relevant questions such as: “Is it possible to detect any contaminant?” “What are the detection limits? Is it possible to detect any particle size? ” and “The importance of reproducibility: Does detecting once mean always detecting?

The center will allow testing with new technologies that will find solutions in the field of food, which may be of interest to the partners of the cluster and their needs in this regard. In this sense, the cluster promotes collaborative R&D projects between companies to improve the packaging sector, as well as its products and processes.
