Packaging Cluster
Overview
About us
Constituted by Catalan companies in 2012, today it groups more than 100 active members between companies, knowledge centers and entities representing the entire value chain of the field, which range from R & D, raw materials and intermediates; the machinery; Peripheral and line endings; Packaging manufacturers; and end users. The main objective of the Packaging Cluster is to help to improve the competitiveness of the companies that make it, in order to generate more and better business for companies and organizations in the world of packaging. This improvement comes from the promotion of networking, knowledge and business, which are worked by six strategic axes which have an annual plan of activities to reinforce and consolidate their respective actions. Notably, the Packaging Cluster has the support of all the administrations, working closely with them to impact heavily on the overall economy. In that sense, there are three key certifications for the world of clusters. The entity is integrated into the Program Catalonia Clústers ACCIÓ, is a cluster registered as Innovative Business Association (AEI) by the Ministry of Industry, Energy and Tourism and received the European qualification gold cluster management by the European Cluster Excellence Initiative (ECIS).

Project name
BSR Innovation Express
Establishment of transnational and crosssectoral collaborations between two Food clusters and one Packaging cluster and their members, in order to facilitate the internationalization and the development of transnational competencies in the cluster member companies as well as in the clusters themselves. The clusters involved are the two food clusters FoodNetwork from Denmark and AINS Cluster of Nutrition and Health from Catalonia and the Packaging Cluster from Catalonia. Moreover, there will be a collaboration and project support from Packbridge from Sweden.
COSME FoodPackLab (Strand 1)
The FoodPackLab project brings together photonics and packaging technologies with one of the oldest industries ever: the food industry. The FoodPackLab consortium will then: 1) Foster synergies between photonics, packaging and food industries towards current worldwide challenges: food processing, security and hygiene, reducing of food waste and Circular Economy in packaging procedures. 2) Positioning Europe as a reference in the food industry outside of the continent, developing new food value chain methodologies, with special emphasis to food packaging, and export them to third countries facing new challenges. Bringing together the companies, technological centers and research groups of the consortium clusters will give rise to new opportunities that, otherwise, would have never appeared themselves if everyone had worked alone.
COSME AdPack 2.0 (Strand 2)
The purpose of this project is to foster cross-sectoral cooperation between the European clusters in the partnership and their SME members, as well as to support their SME members in going international (Canada, China, United States) and positioning them in the advanced smart packaging global value chain. This will be done through the establishment of an ESCP formed by 6 European clusters which bring together different competencies to apply a cross-sectoral approach for the development of the advanced smart packaging global value chain. In this regard, the partnership brings together clusters involved with the final product (packaging), the application market (food), cross-cutting technology clusters (nanotechnologies, microelectronics, software, telecommunications and plasma technologies) and new materials (plastics, polymers and biopolymers).
COSME FoodPackLab (Strand 2)
