Clever 'post-mix' cleaners

  • Company rethought its domestic cleaning products to reduce waste and costs
  • They changed the composition and packaging of the product

Replenish, a company producing domestic cleaning products, wanted to rethink its products to better meet consumers’ needs.

The firm observed that while traditional cleaning products are usually a mix of 10 % chemicals and 90 % water, they could simply provide the chemicals and let customers add the water at the moment of use.

The company came up with a reusable, refillable bottle to which the consumer can attach cartridges that contain the actual cleaning chemicals. The bottle and fitted cartridge is filled with tap water, then mixed and ready for use.

Key benefits

Thanks to the use of reusable bottles and cartridges, this clever approach generates savings in materials, energy and waste in the vicinity of 80-90 %. It reduces transport movements and weights carried, which saves on related externalities like CO2 emissions and pollution. And it also saves on costs for both the producer and the consumer.
