Description of measure

The Swedish Mining innovation (SMI) is part of a joint investment in strategic innovation areas by Vinnova, Formas and the Swedish Energy Agency. The main objective of SMI is to strengthen the competitiveness of the Swedish mining and metal extraction industry. SMI promotes and supports leading centres and clusters for research, innovation and education where sustainable solutions for the extraction of metals are developed. The concrete activities are mainly outreach and communication activities; funding innovation projects; organising meetings and workshops and education schemes to train competent personnel in Sweden. The main beneficiaries are actors in academia, industry and mining and metal organisations. The success factor of Swedish Mining innovation is that it mobilises key players in the Swedish mining and metal leading to broad collaboration, dissemination of technology across traditional industry boundaries and strengthened international competitiveness of the participants.
