The sector-specific support programme was launched as a direct consequence of the COVID-19 pandemic. It aims to support the transformation of the German automotive industry in view of global megatrends like digitalisation and climate change (and more specific to the sector for instance the development of alternative forms of mobility or alternative power trains). The programme provides funding for the establishment and consolidation of new or expansion of existing innovation clusters in the automotive sector that are focussing on changing value chains linked to new power trains, new business ecosystems (in the context of digitialisation and automatisation), and/or changing value chains in the context of new forms of mobility that go beyond owning a car.
