The European Commission, alongside industry stakeholders, will officially present the Code of Conduct for Responsible Food Business and Marketing Practices, on Monday 5 July at 10am CET.
The code is one of the first deliverables under the Farm to Fork Strategy, which aims to create a fair, healthy and environmentally-friendly food system.
You are invited to join the launch event to learn more about how the code can help your organisation transition towards sustainability.
The event will include speeches from Executive Vice President Frans Timmermans and Commissioners Stella Kyriakides and Thierry Breton on how the code can directly support industry transition. There will also be talks from industry leaders who will focus on sustainability and competitiveness of businesses.
The Code of Conduct sets out an aspirational path towards sustainable food systems, with a framework for engagement on food sustainability. The aspirational objectives in the document address healthy, balanced and sustainable diets, prevention and reduction of food waste, resource efficiency, sustainable employment and value creation, as well as sourcing sustainably in food supply chains.
Signatories and non-signatories will be invited to collaborative exercises, where input will be collected for the continued evolution of the code, ensuring it continues to address the needs of stakeholders.
The Commission is acutely aware that associations, and companies alike, will require support during the sustainability transformation. This will come in the form of financial assistance, network building, and best practice sharing to ensure businesses are well equipped and supported during the transition. The code’s content and governance structure works to directly address these challenges.
The code was drafted by industry, for industry, putting the needs of associations and companies into the heart of the document. It is an exciting opportunity for associations and businesses interested in signing up to aspirational sustainability objectives to learn about how the EU can help facilitate this transition.
