Waste as a resource not a problem

  • By giving waste to another company, automotive company saves about € 6 000 annually
  • Win-win relationship turns waste from one company into a resource for another

Magna Automotive CZ Ltd. is a Czech subsidiary of Canadian company Magna which manufactures seat covers for the automotive industry.

Waste from the company's cutting facility is a mixture of textiles, paper, and plastic foils. Every year, it produces around 300 tonnes of this waste, which previously ended in landfill.

Key benefit

Magna Automotive wanted to do something about this so, as part of a Cutter Waste Project, it sourced a company that takes waste material like this and uses it in further processing and final products. Based on an agreement with the manufacturer, Magna contributes to transportation and has leased a compactor/container for the collection and transport of this waste.

Each year, the company will provide 300 tonnes of waste, which would otherwise end up as landfill covering the equivalent of a quarter of a football stadium.
