PIMAP4Sustainability is happy to present the innovation project SWIFT, issued from the collaboration between GS4C, Italy and ISAR, Iceland
SWIFT (Sustainable Weight Reduction via Innovative use of Fiber Metal Laminate Technology) will validate Fiber Metal Laminates (FMLs) technology for automotive manufacturing in collaboration with Jakar, maker of Ísar high-performance Ultra High Mobility (UHM) passenger vehicles. Basalt fiber coupled with aluminium will be used to form FML with thermoplastic resin to reduce weight and improve performances and formability. Expected results will have broad implications for the industry, paving the way for the adoption of advanced materials and sustainable manufacturing practices for high end automotive production.
