Description of measure

The EU Strategy for the Adriatic and Ionian Region (EUSAIR) is a macro-regional strategy adopted by the European Commission and endorsed by the European Council in 2014. The Strategy was jointly developed by the Commission and the Adriatic-Ionian Region countries and stakeholders.The EUSAIR covers nine countries: four EU Member States (Croatia, Greece, Italy, Slovenia) and five non-EU countries (Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Montenegro, North Macedonia, Serbia). The third pillar of the strategy refers to the environmental quality, in particular, the marine environment and transnational terrestrial habitats and biodiversity. The flagship goals of the EUSAIR strategy adopted in 2020 clearly mention the role of cluster: (1) fostering quadruple helix ties in the field of marine and blue bio-technologies for innovation and adaptation for bio blue-economy (2) power networks (Transbalkan electricity corridor) for a green Adriatic-Ionian region (3) development of the network of sustainable tourism businesses and clusters; (4) R&D for better SMEs performance and growth.
