The Delegation of the European Union to India in cooperation with The Office of the Principal Scientific Adviser (O/o PSA) to the Government of India is pleased to invite an Expression of Interest (EOI) for start-ups and SMEs operating in the EU in the domain of Electric Vehicle Battery Recycling Technologies. This is an invitation for innovative ventures from the EU to pitch at a matchmaking event organised under the umbrella of the EU-India Trade and Technology Council (TTC). The winners can look forward to an exploration trip to India. The applicant must be a legal entity established in a European Union Member State

This call for start-ups is matched by a parallel initiative organised by the O/o PSA, scouting and selecting start-ups from India to meet at a joint matchmaking event with companies and investors interested in the battery recycling sector.

Benefits of the programme

• Validation of your solution for application in the Indian market
• Opportunity to pitch to stakeholders from the Battery Recycling Ecosystem in India
• Matchmaking with solution adopters, influencers, policymakers, and potential clients in the Battery Recycling Ecosystem in India (in total six start-ups will be selected for the matchmaking event).  
• From the six start-ups, three start-ups will be selected to visit Electric vehicle battery recycling facilities and meet with stakeholders in India and receive financial support for that trip (travel and subsistence) as a reward.
• Access and insight into the broader EV landscape of India

Eligibility

•  A legal entity established in a European Union Member State

Selection Criteria

Applications will be evaluated qualitatively using the following selection criteri

• Activities in the targeted sector of recycling of batteries for Electric Vehicles
• Advanced-stage deep technology start-up (TRL, IRL, Structured Sales)
• Demonstrated interest and capacity to enter the Indian market and collaborate with Indian stakeholders (Relevance of Technology, Relevance to India and global competitiveness)

Valuation Process & Programme Timelines

• Opening of Applications:  9 April 2024
• Closing of Applications:  30 April 2024, 19:30 pm CET
• Screening of Applications: A preliminary screening of the applications received will be carried out based on the published selection criteria (see above). Incomplete applications or applications received after the deadline will not be considered.
• Presentation to the Selection Committee: The screened-in applications will be asked to present to the selection committee consisting of sector experts from Academia/Industry/SMEs/start-ups and government officials. A representative of the O/o PSA may attend as observer. Each application will be scored based on the published selection criteria.  Selection for presentation will be notified 25 days after closing of the application).
• Final selection for Pitch Event: Six start-ups will be selected based on the scores from the presentation round. These start-ups will be given an exclusive virtual platform to connect with industry leaders, potential investors, and collaborators from both India and the European Union (End of May 2024)
• Matchmaking event with pitching and interaction with solution adaptors and policymakers (20 June 2024 (tbc)
• Selection for Reward Trip: Three start-ups will be invited to meet with potential partners, customers and collaborators in India based on the interactions during the Pitch Event and individual matchmaking.  Retained start-ups will be informed 2 months in advance to visiting India, allowing time for preparation.
