JLP opened its first establishment in 1991 and has since expanded to several bakeries. As the company expanded, management carried out in-depth analyses and decided to adopt an ERP system that included updates to the machinery and equipment to reduce manual labour, and measures to provide better and healthier working conditions to its 139 employees.

All staff were asked to share their ideas for improving working conditions, saving energy and water and developing cleaner production methods.

Key results

• Energy savings were achieved by replacing the electric stoves and ovens with gas ones and installing solar collectors which helped to reduce the company's operating expenses
• A further positive economic impact followed the installation of a washing machine that optimises water temperature and volumes used
