Description of measure

The National Cluster Platform (NCP) Austria is a cooperation platform for cluster institutions, cluster members and cluster experts, established at the initiative of the Federal Ministry for Digital and Economic Affairs. Currently, 71 clusters and networks are members of the National Cluster Platform (NCP).

They belong to the following sectors:
• Automotive, railway, traffic/transport, aerospace
• Materials, packaging
• Timber, furniture & fittings, interior design, housing
• Health, life sciences, wellness
• Food technology
• Mechatronics, electronics, computing, sensor technology
• Renewable energy, environmental technology
• Human resources, design, multimedia
• Information, communications, processes, logistics

Approximately 7,500 (incl. multiple counts) companies and research institutions are members of a cluster or network - the SME share among cluster members is on average approximately 75 %. The more informally organized networks and platforms (without a formal membership structure) reach a total of around 10,000 companies and research institutions with their activities.

The NCP aims at facilitating cooperation between Austrian clusters. In particular: addressing current cluster related trends, technologies and location topics; supporting joint activities and projects; providing information about EU research initiatives and participation in cluster collaboration across Europe. The main beneficiaries are cluster organisations and cluster members. The platform provides a structured forum where cluster actors can dialogue and develop join projects. As the federal cluster policy actions are intended to support regional ones, the platform also fosters complementarity between federal and regional policy by providing a repository of the different actions and measures.“
