Bright lights, big savings

  • New lighting devices reduce CO2 emissions by 170 tonnes
  • Yearly cost reduction of € 170 000

As part of its internal Energy Excellence programme, the Bosch Rodez plant in France carried out a study of the whole site's electric lighting and concluded that there was scope to reduce consumption by up to 20 %. The initial focus was on upgrading the lighting in the locker rooms and workshops, which represent 33 000 m2 of the total 55 000 m2 site.

The measure had a double objective: to reduce energy costs using innovative solutions like high-performance lighting devices, layout optimisation and better lighting management; and to improve operator comfort in terms of lighting uniformity, colour rendition and protection against glare.

Key benefits

During the upgrade, some 554 devices with 2 x 80 W high-efficiency T5 tubes, electronic ballasts and high-performance reflectors replaced 1 629 2 x 58 W T8 tubes, ferromagnetic ballasts without reflectors. As a result, the life of these luminaires was doubled with no loss of light quality.

The service life of the new lighting system is 30 % longer than the old installations and the maintenance costs are 30 % lower. The € 340 000 one-off investment now saves Bosch Rodez around € 170 000 and reduces CO2 emisions by 170 tonnes every year.
