FRANCE: Creation of new categories of masks for non-sanitary use

Submitted by Rita Andrade on 06 April 2020

The French government has just published a new regulation enabling two new categories of masks, intended for non-sanitary use. One model is intended for professionals in contact with public, and the other for the general population.

A call for proposals has been launched by the Directorate General of Enterprises of the Ministry of Economy and Finance, intended for companies ready to offer solutions to increase national production capacity. This call for proposals was accompanied by specifications drawn up by the Directorate General of Armaments (DGA) of the Ministry of the Armed Forces. Several hundred companies and groupings of companies have already proposed alternative solutions. These proposals were subject to filtration and permeability tests conducted by the DGA. The list of producers as well as the test results of the companies that request it will be published on this page. The CSF platform and its group of professionals offer a space for networking between manufacturers of materials and manufacturers of the final products. They also allow exchanges on good practices in the manufacturing of alternative masks. Manufacturers are encouraged to register, enter and keep up-to-date, including contact information and production capabilities.

The materials to be used are not so difficult to find/create, thus, their homologation and serial production should be easier and faster. If the industrial ecosystem can move at the maximum speed possible, citizens could have proper protective systems during their return to the normal life, reducing the risk to rebound effects.
