The second Fact Finding Mission finishes in Shanghai, China, with a collective and individual agenda for the 6 clusters that gathers more than 770 companies in the European Active and Intelligent Packaging value chain. This second Fact Finding Mission, which is part of the AdPack2 project, has been prepared by the ACCIÓ office in Shanghai.

The 6 clusters met on Tuesday 13, there are no superstitions of bad luck in China, to go to the Shanghai Science Hall, where all the meetings of the day were held. We started with Mr. Omar Puertas, Partner of the Cuatrecasas Law Firm. Omar explained legal and practical aspects for doing business in China. Next, we met with representatives of the Board of Directors of the Shanghai Packaging Technology Association, where the President Mr. Zhuang Yingjie and the General Secretary Ms. Song Wenxian were also present. After introducing us all and taking a break for lunch, a round table was organized to find synergies between those present in the room and the companies they represent, which in the case of Shanghai Packaging Technology are more than 450 entities.

FHC Fair China

The second day began with a collective agenda where all the clusters visited two faculties of Shanghai University for Science and Technology; the School of Materials Science and Engineering and the College of Communication and Art Design. In both cases, they welcomed us with open arms to show us the laboratories and all the tools and machinery they put to the disposal of the students. In the afternoon, the AdPack2 consortium was divided into two groups to continue with the program. On the one hand, the clusters focused on food, Inovcluster from Portugal and Packaging Cluster from Spain, went to the FHC Fair (Food and Hotel China) to gain knowledge about the trends and opportunities that are found in these sectors in China. While the other 4 technological clusters (Nanoprogress, BalticNet PlasmaTec, SCS and Plastiwin) visited the Shanghai Tongji University.

Goss Graphics Systems China

To finish the three-day agenda, on Thursday 15th, visits were made to two international companies located in China. Goss Graphics Systems, which supplies presses and finished printing machinery for magazines, news, catalogues, packaging and other printing applications, showed us its manufacturing plant. We were surprised by the organization and cleanliness of it, which they have managed with the 5S methodology, improving teamwork and production and eliminating waste in the processes. And Sealed Air Asia, supplier of solutions with flexible film, received us in a showroom space where they have different machinery with which demonstrations are made with their materials and where the final results are taught.

The “Fact-finding Missions” have been a preliminary investigation in the field of work in the United States, Canada and China, to find new contacts and collect data from the market. This information will allow us to generate a mission to each country with more added value for the partners (planned in 2019), with a specific agenda already worked on and visits to companies and other organizations.
