The Automotive Sector of Galicia creates 1,500 jobs in 2018

Yesterday was held, in Porriño, the annual Assembly of member companies of CEAGA, where about 80 executives from different companies participated. During the ceremony the results of the Automotive Sector of Galicia in 2018 were made public.

One of the most outstanding data is employment, which amounts to a total of 22,300 direct workers on December 31, 2018. This figure represents an increase of 7% over the previous year and 1,500 new jobs generated. Currently, employment in the automotive sector represents 13% of industrial employment in Galicia.

In terms of exports, the Automotive Sector of Galicia reached the figure of 5.700 million euros, 1.21% less than the previous year. For its part, the supplier industry once again recorded, for the fourth year in a row, a record high, reaching 1,500 million euros of exports, representing an increase of 7% over the previous year. Currently, 101 of the 125 companies that make up CEAGA export their products or services abroad. The exports of the automotive sector represent 25% of the total exports of Galicia.

The turnover of the Cluster companies reached 8,650 million euros, which represents a slight decrease of 0.3% over the previous year. This billing is equivalent to 13.5% of Galicia´s total GDP.

2018 was an important year in terms of the level of investments made by Sector companies to adapt their capabilities to Industry 4.0. The investment figure rose again for the fourth consecutive year, reaching 270 million euros.

In addition to presenting these data, the Assembly of CEAGA had the participation of the President of the Xunta de Galicia, Alberto Núñez Feijóo, who was accompanied by the Regional Minister of Economy, Employment and Industry, Francisco Conde, reaffirming their support and commitment to the Automotive Sector of Galicia.

The Assembly also had the participation of the Vice President of CEAGA and Director of the Center of Vigo of Groupe PSA, Ignacio Bueno, who emphasized the good forecasts of the volume of activity of the plant with the new models, which will have a positive effect on the automotive components industry.

The President of the Cluster, Juan Antonio Lloves, renewed his position for two more years and highlighted, during his speech, the positive balance of the economic data of the Sector and assured that CEAGA ”will continue to expand and improve the activities that contribute to the continuous improvement of the automotive sector”, but will also bet on helping all companies in the value chain to become ”suppliers of the future ”.
