3D Printing of Metals - Hot Opportunity!

Submitted by Carolyn Stanley on 21 July 2017

Additives Manufacturing and 3D printing of metals are technologies that are rapidly becoming commercially interesting for many types of products. The question is: How can our small and medium-sized companies join the train?

Development is still in its early stages, but this technology can completely revolutionise certain industries. On September 4th at the High Tech Steel Conference (HTSC 2017), companies will get the opportunity to take advantage of this exciting development and other innovations in advanced steel.A session within HTSC aimed at both large and smaller companies, where the latest in technology development is discussed. Triple Steelix 2.0 has previously conducted a study showing that there are already companies in the Bergslagens area that have products where it may be interesting to start looking at 3D printing. Uddeholm's CEO Johnny Sjöström points to the possibilities in a keynote speech. What makes 3D printing harder with metallic materials is the high temperatures that must be achieved to bind the often powder-based raw material into solid details. Solutions to this exist, but the necessary investments are relatively large and productivity is low. Optimised design with functional focus and material savings is essential for good economy - switching from turning lathe to 3D printing only makes the product more expensive. At present, it is therefore the most highly-manufactured specialty products in small series that have come the furthest in business development.Opportunities are also the ability to easily produce details that would otherwise be very, or completely impossible, to manufacture with other methods. In addition, with certain alloys, you can come up with properties that are better than the corresponding custom-made items. This and much more will be discussed at HTSC to maximise opportunities for both large and smaller companies.About HTSCLeading researchers and innovation developers will lecture and attend the High Tech Steel Conference Conference at Falun Mine in Falun, Sweden on Monday, 4 September 2017.The conference is open to anyone who has an interest in innovation for the future. The conference is free of charge.

HTSC 2017 aims to provide a deep insight into the latest technology developments and innovations in advanced steel.• The revolution and world news in 3D-printed steel products and on future business opportunities• Future high-tech steel and materials for the circular economy• Renewable energy at sea for regional business through new value chains, long-term sustainability and potential for growth.Conference language: EnglishRegistration via www.htsc.seIn total, there are more than 20 different, strong and interesting lecturers who have now confirmed their presence in the forthcoming conference.First, the Swedish Steel Association’s (Jernkontoret) Technical Director Gert Nilson will be talking about "Steel - an exciting material for the future". Thereafter, a series of relevant profiles, such as Jonas Kamf, CMO Waves4Power will talk about Adding Pure Power to the Industry, and Johnny Sjöström CEO of Uddeholm will talk about 3D printing - The future of manufacturing ". Fashion designer Naim Josefi will talk about his innovation recipe and display his fashion made of steel.
