Views of public authorities sought on consumers' role in green transition

Submitted by Lee Gibson on 16 July 2020

The European Commission's Directorate-General for Justice and Consumers (DG JUST) is seeking the views of public bodies on ways to empower consumers to play an active role in the green transition.

A preparatory study is being carried out in the context of the European Green Deal, which provides a roadmap for making the European Union's (EU) economy sustainable and will provide input into the preparation of some of the initiatives included in the Circular Economy Action Plan (published in March 2020 and one of the main building blocks of the European Green Deal).

As part of this study, targeted research is being conducted in 27 EU Member States and four Extra-EU countries to collect stakeholder opinions as well as factual data on consumers and their role as stakeholders in the green transition, as well as information about existing costs and benefits, and recommendations for future policy intervention.

This consultation is specifically targeting public authorities and is complementary to the questions of the EU open public consultation on the same subject.

The consultation for public bodies can be reached here, with submissions welcome until 7 August.

Please feel free to reach out to the study team via ce-study [at] icf.com if you need further clarifications or if you have difficulties in meeting this deadline.
