News about the impacts of the Low Carbon Action Brazil

The European Cluster Collaboration Platform is glad to announce significant advancement on an ambitious European-funded initiative. Indeed, Low Carbon Action Brazil (existing also in Mexico) aims at engaging small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) from the EU Member States and from Brazil in their transition to low carbon technologies and resource efficient processes, notably by the exchange of innovative experiences.

Since its beginning in 2016, the initiative has been organising several matchmaking events, allowing Brazilian and European companies to implement projects having an environmental impact on the Brazilian soil. Three years later, experts of the initiative have reunited in order to assess environmental and social impacts of the projects supported.

Two types of data have been collected for the assessment:

  • Data regarding environmental impact focus on the reduction of CO2 emissions, on the reduction of water consumption or on the energy saved by the company on a given period.
  • Data regarding economic outcomes, such as the level of employment created both in Brazil and in Europe, as well as investment done in environmental sectors in Brazil.

So far, 30% of projects have been assessed and the results are encouraging, and reports already show significant improvements.  CO2 emissions for instance, are estimated to reduce by 30,675 t per year, which is equivalent to the 193-hectare stock in the Amazon Forest. But these results show the efficiency of this international collaboration, and fully justifies the EU investments consented in that initiative. No doubt that final reports confirm the positive impact of Low Carbon Action Brazil on the environment.
