The European Commission has recently launched an expert group platform called ‘Fit for Future’ which will involve representatives of European Union Member States and key stakeholders from various policy areas (Agriculture, Budget, Climate, Competition, Consumer affairs, Energy, Enlargement, Enterprise, Environment, External Relations, Fisheries and Maritime Affairs, Food Safety). The group will be chaired by European Commission Vice-President Maroš Šefčovič (Commissioner for Interinstitutional Relations and Foresight) and have the responsibility of advising the European Commission on ways to cut red tape, simplify and modernise EU laws based on evidence and citizens’ input. The platform will serve as a high-level expert group interface bringing together expertise from national, regional, and local authorities and stakeholders representing various interests. Their main role is to provide recommendations to the European Commission on simplification (including through increased digitalisation) and reduction legislative burden of EU laws. The platform will gather useful data, evidence and input from citizens and stakeholders on a number of topics. The group is open for registration via the European Commission website until the 19th of June 2020.
