In order to build up collaboration opportunities, the bioXclusters+ alliancethe European Strategic Cluster Partnership on Personalised Healthcare has organised with its Canadian Gateway TOHealth!, (Toronto Cluster organisation) a workshop at the occasion of Bio Europe Spring on March 21, 2017 in Barcelona.

The session gave the opportunity to the bioXclusters partners and to TOHealth! to compare business environments and share best practices for the development and internationalization of personalized and precision medicine between Canada and Europe. Following these presentations, the clusters left the floor to a succeeded business expansion case story across the Atlantic Ocean: Catalan biotechnology firm Mosaic Biomedicals, a spin-off of the Vall d’Hebron Institute of Oncologymerged earlier this year with Canadian firm Northern Biologics to accelerate development of a new antibody that attacks a protein responsible for the spread of cancer (MSC-1) and to begin clinical trials at several leading hospitals in Europe and the United States in 2017.

The workshop was a great success with the participation of around 40 attendees (including EU clusters, EU and Canadian Companies). The afternoon ended with a networking cocktail for more informal discussions.

BIO-Europe Spring (BES) is one of the main partnering events in Europe. This edition took place in Barcelona from 20th to 22nd of March. The fair gathered more than 2,500 professionals and 1,300 companies from biotech, pharma and financing sectors.
