Around the world in three hours - the first Global Cluster Matchmaking event

Submitted by Lee Gibson on 05 October 2020

More than 100 clusters and business development organisations from 36 countries met at the first online Global Cluster Matchmaking.

Through almost 200 cluster-to-cluster meetings they (re)connected the cluster ecosystem worldwide - and new global collaborations driven by clusters have already begun.

A key message from the event was that global challenges might have become more complex, but the complexity means that SMEs need more - not less - support from clusters in navigating the new global opportunities.

The power of clusters

During the kick-off webinar Dr Christian Ketels, visiting executive at Harvard Business School, shared his insights on the change in globalisation patterns and the new role of clusters, while the South African supercluster GreenCape demonstrated their power of clustering in times of COVID-19 alongside dealing with the green transition.

Cap Digital - the French hub for digital and ecological transformation - showed how global challenges can be addressed with digital and circular solutions as well as sharing insights on how their services changed due to COVD-19.

The Global Cluster Matchmaking event was crowdfunded by the participating clusters while TCI Network, Enterprise Europe Network Denmark and Cluster Excellence Denmark donated expertise, networks and manpower to make it happen.
