Mission, vision and objectives
Located in the city of Rovaniemi, Finland, on the Arctic Circle, the University of Lapland is an international, multidisciplinary university whose areas of expertise include art and design, education, law, social sciences, as well as Northern and Arctic issues and tourism research.
At the heart of the university’s research profile lies Arctic and northern change. The effects of the global economic and political changes and global warming are particularly severe in the Arctic region. The university produces scientific knowledge on northern societies and environment and their interaction with each other to ensure that life in the Arctic and northern regions will flourish also in the future.
As a research-based higher education institution, the university's teaching and research facilities offer students and scholars the opportunity to pursue academic excellence, at all levels – all the way up to PhD studies. The state of the art research facility, the Arctic Centre, conducts internationally recognized, cutting-edge research on the interactions between people and the environment in the Arctic.
