The Transylvanian Furniture Cluster was established in 2012 as a legal entity association type and its main activity resides in the furniture manufacturing sector. The cluster, legally represented by Hygia Consult, is located in Cluj-Napoca and gathers together members from the furniture industry, RDI, design and consultancy from the Nord-West region of Romania.
Even though the concept of the cluster is well known and very appreciate among the world, in Romania the situation was different at the moment of establishment. With very few people aware of the benefits of a large association based on the value chain, we manage to gather together a number of 15 furniture producers from Transylvania and to initiate common actions in order to enhance our collaboration and to prove that the concept of the cluster can be successfully applied even in Romania.
An important development factor for the cluster was the EU funding which helped us to form and maintain a professional and experienced cluster management team and to continuously develop our services and increase the regional and national representativeness of the cluster. Therefore we manage to make all the steps from emergent to innovative cluster.
Today, the cluster represents 87 members and it’s a platform for cooperation and networking of furniture manufacturers, representation of interests, educational and research institutions, and public administration. The membership of the cluster consists of 65 productive companies, 11 research, and education institutions, 9 catalysts, and 2 public institutions.
The main goal of the cluster is to increase economic competitiveness, in both domestic and foreign markets, based on quality, innovation, and sustainable development.
We took care of the members competitiveness from the technological point of view, during the last two years, we raised and invested over 12 million euros from European funds in modern equipment, therefore we can assure that our furniture factories are high technologized.
A further step, after massive investments was the internationalization of the cluster, therefore we gained a solid experience in delivering complete furnishing solutions as a cluster. No matter what form of business partnership we are running, we can guarantee a reasonable quality-price proportion, flexibility and fidelity to all our clients.
In order to offer a great business experience to our clients, beside complete furnishing solutions we create a high qualified export team and a smart procedure for manufacturing and quality control. Therefore we can help the clients to save time, energy and money and still be sure that everything is exactly how they want it.
All in all we, through our members can provide excellent quality in the field of the furniture and a great quality-price proportion, flexibility and fidelity.

- Cluj Future of Work (Urban Innovation Action)
The project takes 5 innovative tracks:
1. It promotes “smart specialization”, aiming to make creative-based
industries – one of the new competitive advantages of the city- and related knowledge-intensive business services (KIBS) services more competitive and engaged in societal change.
2. It enables the transition to work 4.0, providing training and skills development for the work of today and tomorrow, especially for work cycles under high risk of automation.
3. It re-imagines work, connected to both social values and technical potential.
4. It is an instrument to improve the spatial conditions of the local economy, through the regeneration of the CREIC area by transforming it into a knowledge-based new part of the city.
5. It introduces experimentations for systematic changes for local value-added chains and the new social contract governing the future of work.
CMT through its research directions within the field Eco-Nano-Advanced Technologies and Materials will contribute to “smart specialization” concept promoted by Cluj Future of Work project, being involved actively, through its projects, in the development of human resources so that the workforce within the cluster should be adapted to the dynamics of intelligence specialization areas, encouraging at the same time the development of entrepreneurship within and outside the cluster.
