Survey for a Social Economy

Submitted by Imogen Allan on 04 January 2022

The social economy is a major socio-economic player in Europe which aims to prioritise people and communities over profit, driven by the mission to serve a common good and democracy. It has also been identified as one of the 14 industrial ecosystems in the updated EU Industrial Strategy.

To start 2022, the European Commission adopted a package called “Scenarios towards co-creation of a transition pathway for a more resilient, sustainable and digital Proximity and Social Economy industrial ecosystem”, as well as an Action Plan for the social economy in 2021 – 2030.

This transition pathway is a strategy that focuses on the following key issues:

  • Innovation, professionalisation and skills development

  • Start-ups, scale-up and networking

  • Council Recommendation

  • Investment

  • Access to funding

  • Public investment

In this context, the role of cities and the Intelligent Cities Challenge initiative have been recognised as crucial to the success of the social economy.

Businesses and organisations are invited to complete a survey on their green and digital needs. Based on the results, the European Commission will organise further meetings with stakeholders to deepen the discussions towards finalising the proximity and social economy pathway in 2022.

The deadline is 28 February 2022.
