Review and Preparation of the Joint Cluster Initiative

Submitted by Imogen Allan on 19 August 2021

On 8 June, the European Alliance Against Coronavirus looked at the planned Joint Cluster Initiative, a new European programme for Clusters that will be launched in the second half of 2021, most likely in October.

The Joint Cluster Initiative is part of the second pillar of the new EU Single Market Programme which describes different instruments to increase the competitiveness and sustainability of European SMEs. With a budget of around 45 million EUR in the first funding period, the instrument will fund around 30 so-called “euroclusters”. The aim is to create at least one eurocluster for each of the 14 industrial ecosystems described in the EU Industrial Strategy. The work of the euroclusters should be linked to the smart specialisation strategies and 75% of the funding should be dedicated directly to SMEs.

In the discussion, the European Alliance Against Coronavirus talked about possible preparatory activities for the upcoming Call and the need to connect and align the current needs of the SMEs.

The morning sessions are open to everyone.
