A problem with gas

  • Soft drinks-maker tackles the problem of an energy-hungry carbonator with innovative tech
  • The installation cuts energy consuumption by 47 %, saving the company € 147 000 every year

SNEMBG manufactures and bottles soft drinks and distributes them in the French Antilles and continental France.

To make soft drinks, the process requires carbon dioxide, produced by a dedicated boiler. After purification and liquefaction for storage, a carbonator injects CO2 into the product. The kerosene used during the CO2 production process represents 22 % of the company's energy budget.

SNEMBG had to tackle this cost, so as part of a general production overhaul it invested in new carbonator technology at a cost of € 125 000.

Key benefits

Thanks to the changeover, the company is better able to control energy costs in relation to production volume, reducing them by some 47 % which saves the company € 147 000 every year. SNEMBG is studying the feasibility of further upgrades and energy alternatives.
