S3 SMART SPECIALISATION ONLINE EVENT(5gi24nabgjV)(GuUgAolw93P)_0

Description

The Cohesion Policy encourages regions and Member States to build regional coalitions to support the creation and development of new European value chains in areas associated with strategic growth.

To support this goal, the European Commission launched three thematic smart specialisation (TSSP S3) platforms in 2015 - TSSP Agri-Food, TSSP Energy and TSSP Industrial Modernisation - encouraging regions and their innovation actors across the EU to build strategic S3 partnerships.

The thematic platforms offer a system to:

  • exploit synergies across partnerships and across sectors
  • mobilise the potential of European Structural and Investment Funds
  • offer the possibility to build strategic interregional public private investments.

Building on a bottom-up approach, the ambition is to mobilise the regional innovation and investment potential along EU strategic priorities.

With the support of several Commission Directorates-General,  including Regional and Urban Policy (REGIO), Agriculture and Rural Development (DG AGRI), Energy (DG ENER), Internal Market, Industry, Entrepreneurship and SMEs (DG GROW), Maritime Affairs and Fisheries (DG MARE) and Research and Innovation (DG RTD), the S3 Steering Committee wants to offer a wider view on EU strategic priorities, as well as opportunities for cooperation and interaction with different EU initiatives (such as Horizon Europe partnerships, the European Cluster Collaboration Platform community, etc.).
