The Portuguese Maritime Cluster is a Competitiveness Cluster recognised by the Portuguese Government. Fórum Oceano - Associação da Economia do Mar, a private non-profit association with the status of a public-interest entity, is responsible for dynamising the Portuguese Maritime Cluster, gathering over 100 members representing all the sectors of Blue Economy.

In the last 10 years, Fórum Oceano participated in more than 20 EU-funded projects with a 3 million euros investment (EU contribution over 2.2M€), fostering innovation, internationalisation, and competitiveness; organised missions, B2B meetings, workshops and events, namely the international event Business2Sea; enhanced its network nationally and internationally, by being a member of collaborative networks; and collected strategic information setting the basis of the documents "2020 Sea Challenges" and, more recently, "2030 Sea Challenges" (available here, only in Portuguese). Currently, Fórum Oceano is also the Portuguese National Hub of the WestMED Initiative Assistance Mechanism.

In 2019, Fórum Oceano was awarded as ‘International BlueTech Partner’ by TMA Blue Tech

Fórum Oceano coordinates Portugal Blue Digital Hub, a Portuguese Blue Economy Digital Hub, gathering a network of 60 partners.

Further information

Fórum Oceano works with supply chains and customers by organising international business contacts. By identifying projects and cooperation opportunities between Academy and Industry through the promotion of focus groups’ discussions, the Cluster fosters innovation.

The Association is involved in other activities, such as:

- monitorisation of anchor projects;

- dissemination of maritime information, namely news, events or funding opportunities;

- promotion of studies and strategic reports;

- participation in national and international projects and networks;

- participation in B2B meetings,

- organisation and participation in entrepreneurial missions (e.g. Spain, France, Norway, Cape Verde, Latin America).

- organisation of info days.

- organisation of the international event Business2Sea (Forum do Mar), comprising an exhibition area, B2B Meetings, Conferences and Workshops.
