A Finnish door factory situated in Northern Ostrobothnia changed its former electricity based water circulating heating system into one using geothermal heating, an abundant and renewab;e source of energy store deep in the ground. 

After an investigation of viable alternatives, a new system was introduced and the savings were clear to see.

Key benefits

  • Annual electricity consumption in the plant before changing the heating system was 70 000 kWh
  • The changeover required an investment of € 53 000 with an estimated ten-year payback time; the annual yield on the investment is thus 9 %, with yearly savings of € 5 520 
  • The resulting reduction in CO2 emissions is estimated to be 18 667 CO2 kg annually, which decreases the impact on the environment
  • Cooling system for use during the hotter summermonths were later introduced 
  • Geothermal energy is a cheap and secure source of energy
