Overview

About us

FEMAC located in Catalonia (Spain), is the Catalan Cluster of Agricultural Production Means. FEMAC was set up to enable the cooperation of its members in and around innovation projects for sustainable agriculture. Our members come from all parts of the innovation value chain of the agricultural means sector, and our philosophy is to pool all the expertise that is needed for technology and service developers to bring their product and research results successfully to the market.
It was established first as the Cluster of Agricultural Machinery in 1997. After more than one decade, FEMAC decided to integrate a Smart Specialization Strategy in the Cluster to better respond to complex Agricultural development challenges through: (1) rejuvenating the agricultural production means sector, (2) through higher value- added activities and new market niches, and (3) modernizing by adopting and disseminating new technologies (KETs) like photonics, electronics and GIS & GPS, the Big Data and the Block chain.

In 2016 FEMAC launched the Smart Strategy in Catalonia, together with the University of Lleida, and different stakeholders related to the agro food sector. Together they created the Community of Food Production Technologies (COTPA), with the objectives to Innovation in the field of food production technologies, to get an effective Incorporation of advanced technologies in food production processes, and the Sustainability of production processes in a context of activity compatible with balanced rural development. FEMAC as a coordinator of COTPA, leads the Project LISA (Low Inputs & Sustainable Agriculture), and it is member of Io E- Crops, a Project to deploy the use of internet of things in the agriculture and farming processes. In 2017, FEMAC started an initiative to create DIGITAL FARMING HUB, in collaboration with the Catalan Agricultural Research Centre (IRTA) and the Catalan Technological Centre (EURECAT).

The Cluster FEMAC takes up the challenge to contribute to more sustainable global agriculture. This will help to create a more competitive environment and future for companies and institutions that comprise the cluster, through Innovation, Internationalization and digitization.

Plant Intercluster (PIC) : The Plant InterCluster has almost 10 years and built a strong international network with clusters around those sectors: cider, cereals, fruit and vegetables, ornamental horticulture, medicinal plants, mushrooms, seeds and winegrowing. This international and sectorial network works thanks to a common vision and motivation from its stakeholders. Born in France with 3 Plant clusters, in 2018, even if the coordination remains in the hands of VEGEPOLYS VALLEY, 5 others European clusters joined the steering committee.

TRACE KEI: The objective of the TRACE-KEI project was to strengthen the cluster management, in terms of defining the medium and long-term development strategy and improving the quality of services offered to associated SMEs. In fact, through project activities (ie joint training and study visits), Cluster Managers will have the skills and tools necessary to strengthen the aspects related to cluster management. In terms of strategy development, cluster managers will be more familiar with value chain analysis and market forecasting, in terms of future development trends and compatibility with partners and SME expectations. The FEMAC cluster management team mentored TRACE-KEI participants during 2017 and 2018.

AERCIV: Working Group made by 5 EU clusters ( AUTOKLASTR -CZ, COMET SRL- IT, AC SERBIA-RS, and Kunststoff DIALOG-DE, is focused on the electric vehicle , which objective is to see knowledge-based enterprises grow and thrive along with the value chain of electrical vehicles, especially for agricultural machinery, and civil works.
