Overview

About us

COMET is Friuli Venezia Giulia Mechanical Engineering Cluster, representing around 3,800 enterprises working mainly for the metal processing and mechanics sector (NB. 48% of all the manufacturing companies operating in the region). Strongly endorsed by the Regional Administration, the cluster organisation is the outcome of a process driven by the local government aimed at creating the aggregation of local engineering enterprises and easing their cooperation with supporting actors (RTOs, Universities, etc…) active in the same industry and supply chain.
The organisation business model is based on providing – both directly and indirectly - the following services to enterprises, mainly SMEs:
• supporting their internationalisation processes and creating business networks;
• connecting them to funding resources;
• providing training courses on technical topics to their employees and managers;
• involving them in precompetitive R&D&I projects;
• supporting them in the implementation of new business models (e.g. open innovation, servitization, etc..).
• raising awareness on I4.0 related themes and encouraging their digital transformation.
In 2016 and 2020, COMET has coordinated the regional roadmapping group aiming at identifying the RIS3 development trajectories for the “Factory of the Future”, involving the main Quadruple Helix stakeholders (companies, RTOs, University, etc…). COMET represents FVG position’ at the EUSALP SubGroup “AG2 – Digital Industry” (EU-Strategy for the Alpine Region) and within the framework of Vanguard Initiative. Fully integrated within the regional R&D regional ecosystem, COMET is founding member of the EDIH candidate “IP4FVG – Industrial Platform for FVG” (www.ip4fvg.it) and involved in its “AMS - Advanced Manufacturing Solutions” and “Big Data Analytics & Artificial intelligence” nodes.
