Overview

About us

The Chemical Cluster Delfzijl is a sustainably developed industrial area for chemical related companies, connected to each other like a chain. It is a unique cooperation between companies that exchange raw materials, share supplies, and a common attention for safety, quality people and the environment.

Bordering the North Sea, Chemical Cluster Delfzijl has direct access to sea, inland shipping, the motorway infrastructure of Northwest Europe, and railroad. The region owes this strong position in part to its location in a rural setting, the presence of two seaports, and relevant knowledge institutes with a Nobel Prize winner for Chemistry in 2017. Moreover, the production and landing of a large amount of green electricity and green raw products are all integrated into this integrated chemical cluster. With a green energy mix provided by wind turbines, biomass, solar panels and hydropower, and the opportunities offered by the agricultural hinterland, Chemical Cluster Delfzijl is the best biobased location in Northwest Europe.

It is our ambition to be the first cluster in the Netherlands and perhaps in Europe with zero CO2 emissions and minimum environmental impact.

By 2030, the Eemsdelta will be the most important green seaport and industrial region of the northern Netherlands. The energy and data sector in the Eemshaven is of international significance. The chemicals and recycling industry in Delfzijl is fully bio-based. Thanks to the strong connection between Energy and Dataport Eemshaven and the Bio-based chemicals and recycling cluster in Delfzijl, a single efficient and competitive green seaport complex has been formed.

“Since the survey of ways of reducing carbon emissions in the Northern Netherlands in 2018, a number of outstanding projects have been completed resulting in a reduction of carbon of 54 per cent per tonne of product compared to the reference year 1990. As a result, here in the North we are already almost meeting the 2030 Paris targets,” says Cas König, chairman of the Industry Forum for the Northern Netherlands and CEO of Groningen Seaports.
