Overview

About us

The BioPark Regensburg GmbH is the management and administrative headquarters of the biotechnology research cluster known as BioRegio Regensburg in East Bavaria. Located strategically at the northernmost point of the Danube, in the Austrian-Czech-German triangle, the area is regarded as the gateway to the East of the extended European Union. Currently 61 firms with 4.093 employees are active in the field of life sciences and healthcare in BioRegio Regensburg. As a result it has become the most important region for Biotechnology in Bavaria, second only to Munich.

In 2019 BioPark Regensburg celebrated its 20-year anniversary. In this period 661 million Euro was invested in the development of the life sciences, of this 154 million Euro in venture capital, 326 million Euro in equity capital and 180 million Euro in funding. 42 million Euro of this alone was invested in the three BioPark buildings. On the 18.000 m2 area today there are 35 companies and institutes with 718 employees active here. With special offers such as Startup Weekend, Career Day or a one-on-one discussion the BioPark supports the startup activities at the Regensburg location. In the last 20 years 64 life science startup teams from East Bavaria have taken part in the North Bavarian Business Plan Competition including very successful companies such as the company Geneart, today part of the US company Thermo Fisher Scientific with 286 employees.

In the field of the life sciences and healthcare Regensburg has somewhat to offer on one campus with the University here, the East Bavarian Technical University (OTH), the University Hospital, the Regional Hospital (medbo) and both municipal startup and technology centers - BioPark and TechBase. Points of the specialization in research lie amongst other in the fields of immunology, cell therapy, transplantation medicine as well as in neurology, oncology and medical engineering. With the project “Healthcare Regensburg – managed by BioPark” a new initiative by the City of Regensburg in the field of healthcare has been pushed off. In 2018 20,401 employees with social security insurance were active in this field in the Regensburg Bioregion and this led to a turnover of a total of 1.8 billion € in this industry at the location.
