BNPT - Cross-sectoral and international cluster
BalticNet-PlasmaTec started as an international network and therefore international cooperation is the main focus of our work. Additionally, in the last years, cross-sectoral cooperation became more and more important. Thus the cooperation with other international acting clusters is a strong focus of the cluster work. To address these challenges, three joint internationalisation strategies were developed together with 12 other clusters. The three internationalisation strategies are based on the cross-sectoral topics of advanced and smart packaging, water technologies and industry 4.0. All three internationalisation strategies are based on surveys about the member SME needs for internationalisation from all included clusters.
Based on these strategies, the visibility of each cluster and their members in the EU and outside the EU was already increased during the past 2 years and will be further increased during the next years. Due to the bundling of resources, more attractive actions (e.g. member visits, joint booth at conferences, delegation trips etc.) will be organised.
To have a sustainable structure of the internationalisation strategies and to include new services and activities to the BNPT member, BNPT is one of the founding members of a European Economic Interest Grouping (EEIG) which was established in December 2018. An EEIG is a type of legal entity of the European corporate law. It was designed to make it easier for companies in different countries to do business together, or to form consortia to take part in EU programmes.
Due to the merge of different clusters into the EEIG, BNPT can offer more services and activities to the cluster members which will be paid services. During the upcoming month, the EEIG will enlarged with new clusters towards more than 1215 entities from which 891 are SMEs, 93 large companies, 117 research organisations / universities / technology centres and 114 other institutions. Two highly important changes are foreseen to be implemented in the next month. The first change will need the adaptation of the internal bodies, by-laws and consecutively to create legal framework for the working groups. The name of the legal structure will be updated as the overall focus will be widened and working groups included.
More and more large enterprises using the dynamics of open innovation. Open innovation is a management concept for the active inclusions of partners and customers to generate new products and services. To facilitate the out of the box thinking also for SME, the go-cluster competence networks InnoZent OWL, Food-Processing Initiative and BalticNet-PlasmaTec developed the open innovation platform CLOU. This online platform will start in July 2015 and will provide cluster managers, cluster members but also other clusters through cross-cluster cooperation with an easier access to more target-oriented expertise.
