In 2013 the Government of Armenia established the Alliance Free Economic Zone (Alliance FEZ) in the Yerevan region. The Alliance free economic zone is oriented to the production and exports of high and innovative technologies i.e. electronics, precision engineering, pharmaceutics and biotechnologies, information technologies, alternative energy, industrial design and telecommunications (elaboration and production of technological equipment, systems and materials for data/information transfer). The purpose is to attract foreign direct investments and support the introduction of new technologies. This measure does not directly target clusters but has the potential to facilitate their set-up and development.
