Description
Strengthening cross-border data innovation has been a top priority for the European Commission since its communication on Building a European Data Economy in 2017.
Recent studies concur that the opportunities provided by cross-border data innovation in Europe are still underexploited, however, and that different challenges still exist for the cross-border use of data, including legal and ethical, technical, policy and business challenges. This was also highlighted in a recent Big Data Value Association (BDVA) Position Paper, titled ‘Towards a European-Governed Data Sharing Space’ (November 2020).
At the same time, many initiatives and projects have been launched in recent years to address these obstacles, including those funded under ‘Horizon 2020 – Supporting the emergence of data markets and the data economy’ and the call for Big Data Innovation Hubs (DIHs).
These initiatives include the EUHubs4Data project, which aims to increase cross-border data innovation by:
- connecting key knowledge hubs (the DIHs);
- building an amalgamated and cross-border catalogue of services and data;
- showcasing the benefits of cross-border collaboration around data innovation;
- directly supporting cross-border experiments.
The EUH4D Data Forum is as an annual event held within the framework of the EUH4D project.
It aims to raise awareness, share results and recommendations, and receive contributions on strategies and policies from the European Commission in relation to data.
The event will be held on 30 March 9:30 CET in online format and include participation from different experts in the field of European Big Data.
