SEAPLANSPACE Project 1 meeting

SEAPLANSPACE Project 1 meeting was held in Economics Faculty, Gdańsk University in October 22. About marine spatial planning instruments for sustainable marine governance the representatives of the administration and scientists from universities and institutes during 3 sessions discussed.

Prof. Piotr Stepnowski, Vice-Rector of the University of Gdańsk , prof. Monika Bąk, Dean of the Economics Faculty and Ms Katarzyna Gruszecka-Spychała, the vice-president of Gdynia opened the conference and wished fruitful deliberations.

Anna Stelmaszyk-Świerczyńska, Representative of the Polish Maritime Administration about spatial planning in Poland said.  Jennifer Billowie, Joint Secretary, Baltic Sea Region Programme, presented the South Baltic program and the most important projects implemented under the program.  Prof. Dorota Pyć, SEAPLANSPACE Project Manager, University of Gdańsk, discussed the objectives and tasks of the SEAPLANSPACE program.

 

Challenges for the Marine Spatial Planning  was the subject of the Session 1.   Marine Spatial Planning – key challenges – was Rober Dobak form Kalmar   subject of the presentaion. Angela Schulz-Zelden said about multiuse of the seas – consequences for the society and stakeholder’s involvement need.   Importance of substantive stakeholder involvement in MSP proces pointed prof. Sylwia Mrozowska, Gdańsk Uniwersity.

In session 2, the focus was on marine governance instruments – fields of stakeholder’s interest. Considerations  about aspects related to Environment presented Egidujus Jurkus (Pajuris Regional Park),  about Economy conditions in Baltic Sea Region – Joanna Przedrzymirska (Maritime Institute Gdańsk), about  Society aspects – Katia Rudow (EUCC Germany) and considerations about legal aspects dr Maciej Nyka presented.

During  the session 3, various aspects of training were discussed.  The advantages of networking in using the MSP instruments for sustainable marine governance by Henrik Nilson (World Maritime University) presented on the Blekinge region inter-municipal marine spatial plan example. Prof. Ramunas Pavilanskas (director of the EUCC Baltic Office, Klaipeda University) informed about the role of knowledge transfer – best practices stressing the need for a holistic  approach to MSP.  Multidisciplinary and System Approach Framework on the two Northern Baltic case studies was presented.
