Port of Gdynia handlings and activity in year 2016

Port of Gdynia is now one of the leading ports in the Baltic Sea Region. It specializes in handling general cargo, including containers, ro-ro and other unitized cargoes. The port has a well-developed network of multimodal transport connections to the hinterland and to its foreland by regular Short Sea Shipping as well as ferry connections. Handling of bulk cargoes in the port’s specialized terminals also play a significant role in the port’s activities.

Statutory obligations and scope of activities of the Port of Gdynia Authority S.A.

  • management of all land and port infrastructure located within the administrative jurisdiction of the port,
  • forecasting, programming and port development planning,
  • construction, reconstruction, maintenance and modernization of port infrastructure,
  • acquisition of land for port development purposes,
  • provision of services related to the use of port infrastructure,
  • charging port dues,
  • ship waste collection and management.

Ferry / Ro-Ro connections: The Ferry Terminal is located at Helskie II Quay. It supports a ferry connection of Swedish operator Stena Line on route Gdynia – Karlskrona. Ro-Ro connection between Gdynia and Finnish ports is operated on regular basis by two ship operators (Finnlines, Transfennica).

Cruise ships: Gdynia is the only port in the country with proper mooring conditions for the biggest cruise ships that can enter the Baltic Sea. The Francuskie Quay of maximum depth of 12 meters together with Pomorskie Quay offer 2 berths of total length of approx. 700 meters for handling cruise vessels.

Investments in the Port of Gdynia:

  • deepening of the entrance fairway and port channel planned to be implemented in phases I–III as well as reconstruction of quays: phases II–III;
  • construction of a new public ferry terminal.
