The "Start-up BW Elevator Pitch" start-up competition is currently once again looking throughout Baden-Württemberg for the most imaginative business ideas and the best founders in the state. The Regional Cup Karlsruhe took place virtually on November 9, 2020 in cooperation with the Chamber of Industry and Commerce Karlsruhe. Ten teams presented their business ideas to an expert jury. The Regional Cup was broadcast as a live stream on the YouTube channel of Start-up BW. The "Discover|e" team from Karlsruhe convinced the jury and will move on to the state finals in 2020. State Secretary Katrin Schütz handed over the awards virtually and congratulated the prize winners: "We need committed and courageous founders like you who will decisively shape our business location of tomorrow. We saw many exciting ideas today, which we are happy to offer a stage for. Good business models must not be lost in the pandemic - that is why we are supporting start-ups with our programs even in these difficult times". Discover|e was awarded with 500€ for their idea to expand the charging infrastructure for electric cars in apartment buildings. In the future, residents should have easy access to charging stations. Discover|e provides support with charging systems for consulting, installation and commissioning - individually adapted to a wide range of properties. In addition to the hardware, software is also offered in the area of billing for the individual residential units.

About the competition:

The Baden-Württemberg Ministry of Economics, Labor and Housing has been running the "Start-up BW Elevator Pitch" competition since October 2013 as part of the "Start-up BW" state campaign. Business ideas in the pre-founding phase up to three years after the company's foundation can be submitted to the Start-up BW Elevator Pitch and presented on stage.

The founders and start-up teams each have three minutes to convince the jury and the audience of their business idea. The presentations at the Elevator Pitch are made without digital media such as PowerPoint slides or videos. The use of printed photos, signs, prototypes and models is permitted.

The teams are judged by the jury on the basis of the criteria business model (quality of the business model and maturity of the concept, customer benefits and market opportunities, viability and sustainability of the business model) and presentation (content and structure of the presentation, rhetoric and stage presence, use of available time). The composition of the jury varies in the regional competitions.
