Paper and cardboard as a alternative of sustainable packaging

In the last session organized by the Packaging Cluster, different examples and success stories of paperization in the packaging sector were presented

One of the issues that most concerns to the stakeholders in the packaging sector is achieving sustainability in all its production processes, from the production of the product until it reaches the final consumer, which involves all actors in the value chain. Sustainability is a latent concern among the members of the cluster, since they have communicated it to us themselves, and that is why it becomes one of the backbones on which all the activities that we organize and projects that we promote are based.

In this sense, on Wednesday, 22nd of April, we brought together virtually three companies members of the cluster as examples of good practice in sustainable packaging solutions. In this case, Hinojosa Packaging SolutionsCapsa Packaging and TGB were the companies invited to explain how paper and cardboard work as a fundamental packaging material that, in times of crisis like the current one, is essential for e-commerce and for the transportation of basic necessities.

The session began with Norman Masià, Business Developer at Hinojosa Packaging Solutions, who focused his intervention on the proposals offered by Hinojosa, as primary packaging, at the food distribution level (market that covers 47% of its production ). Masià explained the consumption habits that are changing based on general trends and the current context, and how they are adapting their strategy based on those detected needs.

On the other hand, Laura LópezHead of R&D at Capsa Packaging, exposed at the Webinar the technologies that Capsa is using, especially innovative cardboard solutions for e-commerce. Laura López told us about the award-winning system they have launched, Capsa 2en1, which favors the safe and fast packaging of the cardboard box, and easy access to the contents of the high resistance package.

Manel BartrolíCEO of TGB, closed the session with his speech, in which he showed us some of the functionalities of paper in flexible packaging, as a complementary tool. He highlighted the importance of the objectives for the FMCG (Fast Moving Consumer Goods) companies for 2025 with a “downgaging”, the “paperization”, of trying to minimize the use of flexible multimaterial packaging and to tend to tend to monomaterial laminates. Above all, do not mix different materials and always analyze each case, since the best material depends on what it contains.

At the end of the webinar, the different questions that were thrown by the attendees were resolved, such as the actual recyclability or reuse of the products presented, the logistics costs or the printing and sustainability of their inks.

All these solutions were presented in the session “Paperization: sustainability seen from the paper perspective”. Check out our agenda to know the next activities that we are carrying out.
