More prizes and new opportunities for development of the participants in the Hackathon - December 2018 in Burgas

In partnership with ICT Cluster Burgas, sponsors of the already traditional Burgas Hackathon have become the hosting company SuperHosting.BG and the Union of Bulgarian Black Sea Local Authorities (UBBSLA)

The fastest growing and largest hosting company in Bulgaria, SuperHosting.BG will provide free domains from the .online domain to hackathon teams, as well as a quarterly hosting plan "SuperPro" for their projects during the race. The excellent opportunity will allow students to work seamlessly and actively in a fast and secure online environment. SuperHosting.BG will award the participating teams with material prizes and useful online tools, and the winning teams will be given hosting for one year in which they can continue their work.

The municipality of Burgas is already among the founders of the Union of Bulgarian Black Sea Local Authorities (UBBSLA) since 1992. At present, 21 municipalities from the Bulgarian Black Sea coast are members of UBBSLA. The association participates as a partner in the CrowdStream project, funded under the Danube Transnational Cooperation Program 2014-2020, in partnership with 16 organizations from 11 European countries. A leading organization is the Agency for European Integration and Economic Development (Austria). The main objective of the project is to improve the efficiency of public/private business support for innovative start-up technology companies and social enterprises to access qualitatively alternative funding (group funding). The project is aimed at increasing the share of alternative funding for small, medium and new enterprises.

The Union of Bulgarian Black Sea Local Authorities (UBBSLA) http://www.ubbsla.org will award the participating teams with material prizes as well as during hackathon will follow as a favourite for development in the following areas:

  • Innovative social technologies and services that help older and disabled people become more independent and self-sufficient
  • Develop products, services and solutions to help meet the social and health challenges of an ageing society
  • Development of technological solutions mainly used by or in support of staff providing or performing social services  

Hackathon - Burgas is being organized from 14 to 16 December 2018 by Prof. Dr Assen Zlatarov University - with the exclusive support of Burgas Municipality and leading companies in the IT sector.

The purpose of the hackathon is to create software applications on the topic: "Active Burgas". Hackathon - Burgas is a modern challenge for the development of software applications. Teams of students and students with knowledge in the field of information technologies can participate. According to a predefined topic, the goal is to create a concept and develop a pilot version of an application. In each edition lecturers from leading Bulgarian and international companies to present the latest developments in the IT sector.

Development opportunities

INSYS Ltd. will offer students in the Hackathon an opportunity for quick and free registration in the innovative labour portal https://www.ito.bg/bg , where the best of them will be interviewed by German employers from the information and communication technology sector. Virtual interviews are the shortest way for a successful career, internship and work for German companies during the course of the students' training.

ICT Cluster – Burgas will present its latest project StartupHub, which is fully in support of young entrepreneurs in Bulgaria. Anyone who wants to know how to create their StartUp, build a business model for their innovative idea, and undergo intensive vocational training for entrepreneurial skills, management and business, will be able to apply for a completely free training program tailored to the workload students at the University. The best candidates will also receive individual help and advice to create a profitable business plan and business registration. A special Entrepreneurial StartUp package will stimulate successful young entrepreneurs with financial, legal, management and communication services.
