International insight on the Circular Economy to the CE HotSpot Scotland

On November 30th and October 1st the Circular Economy HotSpot Scotland took place, an international meeting, where about 400 people related to Governments, companies and organizations, from different countries showed their policies and actions aimed at the development of the circular economy. In which, from the Cluster of Packaging, we have had the opportunity to participate as members of Observatori Circular de Catalunya.

Two intense days with various presentations where the people have spoken about at what point we are in the surroundings of the circular Economy, the importance of cooperation, new business opportunities, initiatives environmental at the city level, and good practices about circularity carried out on Scotland.

During the day, much emphasis was placed on the fact that only 9.1% of the world economy is circular (The circularity GAP report), and that we must continue working to become more circular. Also, was focused that the designers have to start thinking differently and make real circular initiative. And other point of view is that Waste has become socially normalized.

Another of the activities that we were able to attend was a workshop on the misuse of food and what are the challenges we want to achieve in order to reduce it. Dq6QgavX0AESp42Visiting the Plastic Recycling Center of Exellence

On the second day, visits were made to different companies related to circularity, where we visited the Scottish Plastic Recycling Center of Exelence, where  they are developing projects about  the environment of plastic recycling, technical support , certification services for plastics manufacturing companies. One of the innovative projects that are developing in the center, is a prototype machine to be able to separate the plastics from their density.

At the end of the meeting the verdict of the congress for 2020 was given, where the Catalan candidacy was imposed on the candidatures of Canada, Denmark, Taiwan and Slovenia, with a proposal that highlighted the work that the Catalan Government is promoting  for some years with the approval at that time, on the Green and Circular Economy Strategy with the Pacte Nacional per la Industria and with the Ecodisign Strategy.  From the government delegation they were very satisfied with the work done and the support given by the entities, development centers and companies that were part of the meeting.
