The Galician Automotive Sector, in a difficult year for companies led by supply problems, the increase in the cost of raw materials, the impact of the energy crisis or the escalation of inflation, has resisted the situation and closed the 2022 financial year strengthened, reaching maximum turnover and exports.

The turnover of companies amounted to 11,550 million euros, 3% more than the previous year. The Sector’s exports also marked their best historical data, with 8,220 million euros, which represents a slight increase of 0.7% compared to 2021. This figure is equivalent to 27.5% of total exports from Galicia. Sector investments rose slightly and reached 134 million euros.

Sales of components abroad grew even more than the Sector as a whole, specifically 5.6%, reaching 1,740 million euros. The main products or services abroad were mainly destined for countries such as France, Portugal, Poland, Germany, Italy, the United Kingdom, Morocco, Sweden, Argentina or the USA.

Regarding employment, the automotive industry has 23,200 direct jobs (as of December 31st), which is equivalent to 13.8% of industrial employment in our Community, 1% less than in 2021.

Despite the uncertain situation that the automotive sector is experiencing, and the difficulties that many of the Cluster companies are going through, the Galician automotive industry, which manufactured 19% of the vehicles produced in Spain in 2022, continues to lead the ranking nationally, thanks to the Stellantis Center in Vigo, which once again is the most productive car factory.
