CTA has led the development of an online catalog that includes more than 70 bio-based technologies adapted to the needs of rural Africa, to support the adoption of new production methods for the deployment of a circular bioeconomy.

This activity is part of the BIO4Africa project, co-funded by the European Union's Horizon 2020 programme to promote technological solutions and value chains in the bioeconomy sector in Africa.

The aim of the catalog is to provide a resource for farmers and cooperatives interested in incorporating off-the-shelf solutions, as well as for technology developers seeking new R&D opportunities or synergies, and those responsible for formulating public policies that encourage its adoption.

The technologies have been assessed according to a number of key criteria, including the cost of investment and operation, the technical skills required of local farming communities, and their suitability for small-scale applications. Other important considerations were the availability and transportability of the raw material and the market potential of the final product.

All the technologies have been identified through a survey that will remain open during the execution of the BIO4Africa project. Do you have a bio-based technology? Do you want to gain visibility and appear in the catalogue? Participate here.
CTA, Sustainable Innovations and Barcelona Business Platform are the Spanish partners of this project that has a total of 13 European and 12 African organizations.
