BetterOffBlue2017 – 2nd SUBMARINER Network conference

   The 2nd SUBMARINER Network conference “BetterOffBlue2017” took place in Berlin, Germany on 27–28 September 2017. It united actors from the public, private and research domain working towards a blue bioeconomy throughout the Baltic Sea Region to showcase advances, to create synergies and stimulate active cooperation between the multitude of ongoing projects and initiatives in the region. Participants could: •    Find out about the latest developments in blue bioeconomy in the Baltic Sea Region, •    Make the most of excellent networking and matchmaking opportunities, •    Discuss current and future strategies for blue bioeconomy in the Baltic Sea Region. Pomorskie region was very active thanks to the contributions of the Smart Blue Regions project partners – “Pomorskie in the European Union” Association (SPUE) and the Maritime Institute in Gdansk. Magda Leszczyna-Rzucidło, project coordinator in SPUE, moderated one of the workshops on smart specialization and RIS3. Among the guests we had Mr. Alfred Naskręt representing the Maritime School in Gdynia as well as the Polish Maritime Cluster and Mr Paweł Mawduk from Gdansk Shipyard. Other keynote speakers included: Bernhard Friess – Director Maritime Policy and Blue Economy, Directorate-General for Maritime Affairs and Fisheries, European Commission, Jakob Granit – director general for the Swedish Agency for Marine and Water Management (SwAM) and Christine Lang – CEO ORGANOBALANCE GmbH and co-chair of the German Bioeconomy Council. Next SUBMARINER conference is planned for 2019.
