From 20 to 30 June the Basque Energy Cluster and companies belonging to the Association attended meetings and events in Washington as part of the agenda of business and institutional meetings organised by the Dept. of Economic Development and Competitiveness of the Basque Country.

Two of these meetings were especially important: the one with the US Department of Energy (DoE) about Oil&Gas, Smart Grids and renewable energy, and another meeting with representatives of the Department of Interior (DoI), which is in charge of establishing the criteria to allocate federal land for Oil&Gas permits and for the installation of both onshore and offshore wind farms. A meeting was also held in the German Marshall Fund's headquarters. The meetings were chaired by the Basque Regional Minister Arantxa Tapia, who after the presentations by the representatives of the US organisations gave an overview of the Basque economy and industry.

The Director of the Basque Energy Cluster also presented the Basque energy sector in the meetings, as well as the strengths of its various value chains. Then the attending companies also gave presentations. A business meeting was also held with an expert from the Electric Power Research Institute (EPRI). This meeting was organised by the Cluster in collaboration with Ormazábal. A total of 14 Basque Energy Cluster companies took part in these meetings.

Lastly, on Thursday 30 June there was also an event in Washington, "Basque Country Economic Forum", which aimed to show companies and public bodies the characteristics of the Basque economy and its industrial capabilities. This event included a panel called "The Basque Energy Sector: Success Stories", in which José Ignacio Hormaeche, Managing Director of the Basque Energy Cluster; José Manuel Corera, Iberdrola's Head of Control Systems; and Borja Negro, CEO of Gamesa USA took part.
